Joe Wolfinger Named Top Center in NBDL Japan
MARCH 24, 2014, TOKYO, JAPAN - Joe Wolfinger of the Tokyo Excellence has been named the top center in the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) of Japan for the 2013-14 regular season.
A native of Portland, Oregon, the towering 7' 1' Wolfinger played the entire 2013-14 season with the Excellence and in previous season he has played professionally in Slovakia and Germany. He is also a former University of Washington Huskie and Citadel Bulldog.
Not only has Wolfinger been named the league's top center, but he also boasts the third highest average of points per game with 23.00; fourth in average rebounds with 13.50 per game; fifth in field goal percentage with 54%; and fifth in average blocks with 1.00 per game.
'I was very pleased and honored to hear I was voted top center in the league,' said Wolfinger of his remarkable accomplishments. 'And this amazing season with the Excellence has been the icing on the cake. Hopefully my success in Japan will work as a stepping stone to boost my career.'
As if there wasn't enough to celebrate, Wolfinger and the rest of the Excellence took home the NBDL Japan Championship on Sunday, March 23, after defeating the Toyota Tsusho Fighting Eagles 93-77. For their first season in the NBDL, the Excellence have maintained an impeccable season record of
31-3 thanks in large part to the all-star performance of Wolfinger.
