Chiefs have 3 players on ESPN's top 25 under-25 list

By: Wesley Roesch | November 16, 2017 10:10 am

The Chiefs have a bright future ahead of them.

ESPN acknowledged this when putting together their top 25 list of the best players under 25 years old. Three Chiefs made the list, more than any other team.

Those Kansas City players were cornerback Marcus Peters (No. 3), running back Kareem Hunt (No. 14) and receiver Tyreek Hill (No. 15).

Here’s what they said about the 24-year-old Peters:

Peters’ 17 interceptions rank tied for fourth since 1970 through a player’s first 40 regular-season games, edging out contemporaries Richard Sherman (16) and Aqib Talib (15).

“He has an incredible ability to play the ball in the air and find it in his blind spot,” a coach said.

On Hunt (22 years old):

Hunt has 800 yards rushing and 331 yards receiving in his first nine NFL games. Peterson, Elliott and Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin are the only players in the past 15 seasons to have more yards from scrimmage in their first nine games.

On Hill (23 years old):

Hill has 101 receptions for 10 touchdowns in his first 25 games, but his impact is felt beyond the box score when the Chiefs put him in motion to distract from their true intentions, such as when they fake jet-sweep handoffs to him. Hill also has four touchdowns as a returner.

There were a ton of talented players on this list so the fact that the Chiefs had three players on there is impressive. If they made a top 50 or top 100 list then KC could’ve possibly had more.

Here are some of KC’s best players under 25, in my eyes:

–WR De’Anthony Thomas: Only 24 years old and is in his fourth season in the NFL. That’s impressive in itself. He’s not a top player in the NFL but is clutch for the Chiefs as a gadget player on offense.

–LB Reggie Ragland: 24 years old. He’s not a top player but has a ton of potential. I know we’re talking best players and not potential but Ragland could get there one day if he stays healthy.

–CB Steven Nelson: 24 years old. He’s in his third season and does a pretty good job of holding down the nickel cornerback role. He’s also a good tackler.

–DE Chris Jones: 23 years old. If ESPN made a top 50 under-25 list, I’m confident that Jones would make it. He’s talented and has all the potential in the world for greatness.

–QB Patrick Mahomes: 22 years old. His potential is through the roof. In time we may see him on that top 25 under-25 list.

–K Harrison Butker: 22 years old. It’s still early in his career but he has made 19 field goals in a row and hasn’t missed an extra point yet this season. If he keeps it up he could make the Pro Bowl in his rookie year.

-Other notable players on the Chiefs under 25 are tight end Ross Travis, defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches, offensive guard Parker Ehinger, receiver Demarcus Robinson, safety Eric Murray and linebacker Tanoh Kpassagnon. All of those guys have potential to be good or even great. Give it time.
